1970 91 Rich Morales

Rich Morales Rich Morales batted below .200 (in 62 games) in 1970.  1970 would not be the last time that happened.  Morales would remain with the White Sox long enough to see their brief resurgence under Chuck Tanner. 1970 would be the last year for the light blue uniforms and caps.  The team switched to red in 1971, but the Topps cards did not exactly catch up on time.  More on that later. 1967 Was the Indianapolis Indians' last year with the White Sox.   Morales was with the Hawaii Islanders during their only year (1968) of affiliation with the White Sox. 1969 was the Tuscon Toros' first year in the PCL and first year with the White Sox.

1970 90 Tim McCarver

Tim McCarver Tim McCarver was one of the few Phillies from 1970 that would end up making the playoffs with the team (after an interruption between 1972 and 1975) by the mid to late 1970's.  He was probably unhappy to leave the perennial contending Cardinals for the bottom dwelling Phillies. But I am sure he did not guess that he would play in multiple playoffs with the Phillies long before the Cardinals returned to the post-season. On October 7, 1969, he was included in the famous Flood, Allen, Rojas, etc. etc. etc. deal.  October 7 is apparently not soon enough for Topps to get a photo with a hat.  McCarver played about a quarter of the season in 1970.
