Agee's claim to fame is mentioned in the text on the back. His catches in the 1969 World Series remain as his claim to fame to this day. (Card # 307 provides a photo of one of the catches.) In the Spring of 1970 when this card was new in packs, it was easy to expect that the Mets' reign would continue - along with new milestones for Agee and the others.
Agee did have an excellent year in 1970 - but his numbers generally did not rival those of contemporaries like Yastrzemski, Rose, Stargell, Bench, etc. Agee's 1970 numbers for runs, stolen bases, total bases and other categories were tremendous. His numbers would begin to decline after 1970.
Agee had been part of multi-player trades that brought Tommy John to the White Sox in 1965 (Rocky Colavito and others were part of this multi-team deal) and Tommy Davis to the White Sox in 1967 as part of the same deal that brought Agee to the Mets.
The Indianapolis Indians were affiliated with the White Sox when Agee played for them in 1965. They are the second oldest (1902) minor league franchise in American baseball.
